Pandemic Prayer Intentions

The monks of St. Bede Abbey have been praying for all those affected by the coronavirus.  Below is a sampling of intercessions used in the last six weeks during the General Intercession at Mass.

1.       For all those under quarantine who feel anxious or isolated, that the Christians around them will reach out to them with expressions of hope and comfort.

2.       For grocery store owners, pharmacists and delivery drivers, and for all those who provide necessary services in this time of uncertainty.

3.       For all those infected with the coronavirus, that they may receive adequate and compassionate medical care.

4.       That we may cheerfully and faithfully accept the changes in our lifestyle made necessary by the current pandemic.

5.       That all may work together to ensure that adequate supplies may be available to our hospitals.

6.       That people who are most likely to become severely ill from the coronavirus may be protected from harm by responsible action by all people.

Below is a prayer used by monks at their Midday prayer service. The prayer has been adapted from internet sources.

O Lord Jesus Christ, in your loving care, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love. Be with families of whose who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. Strengthen doctors, nurses, and all medical professionals who seek to heal and to help those affected, and protect all those who put themselves at risk for the sake of the good of all.  We make our prayer in your name, our Healer and our Hope, now and forever.
